321 is similar to 304, but uses titanium as a stabiliser. They differ in that they are resistant to intergranular corrosion after heating to temperatures in the carbide precipitation range. Applications include aircraft exhaust manifolds, furnace parts, heat exchangers, furnace parts etc.

General Properties. Alloy 321 (UNS S32100) is titanium stabilized austenitic stainless steel plate with good general corrosion resistance. It has excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion after exposure to temperatures in the chromium carbide precipitation range of 800 - 1500F (427 - 816C).
321 Stainless Steel Plate 321 stainless steel plates are part of the austenitic family of stainless steel. 321 is basically a 304 grade containing a stabilizer of titanium. Type 321 is a good choice for applications where heat is an issue. 321 can be used in applications up to 900C where 304 is normally used up to 500C.
Both AISI 316 stainless steel and AISI 321 stainless steel are iron alloys. They have a very high 96% of their average alloy composition in common. There are 33 material properties with values for both materials. Properties with values for just one material (3, in this case) are not shown.
Mechanical Properties 321 is a titanium stabilized austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel which was developed to provide an 18-8 type alloy with improved intergranular-corrosion resistance. This material is stabilized against chromium carbide formation by the addition of titanium.
Type 321 stainless steel s also advantageous for high temperature service because of its good mechanical properties. Type 321 stainless steel offers higher creep and stress rupture properties than Type 304 and, particularly, Type 304L which might also be considered for exposures where sensitization and intergranular corrosion are concerns.
Elevated Temperature Properties: 321 displays good oxidation resistance in continuous service up to 930 o C, and in intermittent service up to 870 o C.It can also be used within the carbide precipitation range 430 o C - 870 o C without the risk of intergranular corrosion. Mechanical properties are reduced as temperature increases.

321/321H Stainless Steel. Penn Stainless inventory now includes Alloy 321 (UNS S32100) in sheet, sheet coil, plate, round bar, processed flat bar and tubular products.
Processing: Type 321 is non-hardenable by heat treatment. Annealing: Heat to 1750 2050F, then water quench or air cool. Forming: Type 321 can be readily formed and drawn. Like most austenitic stainless steels, Type 321 work hardens and may require annealing after severe forming.

The titanium addition reduces or prevents the sensitization of carbide precipitation during welding and in services at the temperature range of 425-815C.
